January Book Scene

This is part of a chapter I have pulled from my book Leanna.  I have finely finished the first draft of the book and am now working on the second draft and so on.  Anyway hope you like this scene.

Tyler passed his hand over his face as he came up the stairs.  It had been a long day and he was not looking forward to a can of soup and a lumpy chair.  He unlocked the door, took off his hat and walked in.  With one foot in the door he stopped.  What had happened?!  The entry was sparkling clean and a bench stood against the wall with a peg rack above it.  To further puzzle him, wonderful smells were coming from the kitchen.  Heading there first, he peeked into the living room on his way through the hall.  Was he dreaming?  What had happened to his house?
Leanna was the first one he saw as he stepped into the kitchen. She sat on the counter smiling at him.
“Beautiful, what are you doing here?”  He crossed the kitchen in one step and sweeping her off the counter, he twirled her around.
“Happy Birthday!” Leanna said, kissing him.  Then Tyler saw his mother, Hope and Brett.
“Wow guys!  Thanks a bunch!” he said, pulling them all into a hug.     “Emily wanted to come but she had a rehearsal today for the play.  But she wishes you a very happy day,” Leanna said.
“Tell her thank you.  But how did you guys do this?  Were you already here when you called this morning?”  Tyler asked Leanna.
“No we were on the road a little east of Minot.  And this got done with a lot of hard work.  I have been gathering things up over the last few weeks.  This place was no excuse for a house.  And we had to do something for you for your birthday,” Leanna looked at Tyler.
“I don’t know what to say.  This is amazing guys.”  Tyler pulled Leanna into a close embrace.
“I think we really got him good,” Isabelle said, moving over to the stove.  “Now go shower, then we can eat.”
“Your clothes are laid out on your bed,” Leanna said as she pushed him towards the doorway.
“Wow this is like heaven,” Tyler said.
“If you had been in my place all day you wouldn’t think so.  These three are any man’s worst nightmare,” Brett winked at his brother-in-law to be.  Tyler laughed and left the room.
“What do you think?” Leanna smiled at Hope and they hit a double high five.  They were very pleased with their success.
The evening was wonderful.  Tyler showered in the master bathroom, while Hope and Leanna took quick showers upstairs and changed into clean clothes.
“This is good,” Tyler said, taking a bite of the casserole his mother had made.  “And cake too!  I’m never going to get over everything.  This has been the best birthday so far.”
After the supper clean up, the other three went to bring the vehicles back and Tyler sat on the top porch step next to Leanna.
“All of this is so wonderful but having you here is the best part of all,” Tyler put his arm around Leanna.
“I’m glad we could give you a happy day.  And I’ll have a better peace of mind knowing you’re not living in such a place as this was when we got here this morning,” Leanna replied and Tyler laughed.
“You worry about me too much,” he said.
“Then you worry about me too much,” Leanna retorted.
They spent the evening walking around the town and taking pictures of Tyler and Leanna that would be used for the wedding announcements.  Brett spent a good part of the time talking to Neil, Emily, Ivy and Levi in turn.  They went back to the house to relax a little before going to bed.
“You girls can have my room tonight,” Tyler said.
“Nope our room is upstairs,” Leanna said.
“Don’t tell me you fixed the rooms up there, too?” Tyler looked surprised.  Hope nodded and they all headed upstairs to show Tyler.
The one room had two beds in it all made up but the rest of the room was bare.   They had taken the mattress from Tyler’s room and put it on a simple metal frame in another room upstairs for Brett.
“You guys way outdid yourselves today,” Tyler said.
“We’ll sleep well tonight,” Hope smiled.
    “I’m asleep already,” Brett said.
“Oh, go to bed,” Hope shoved her brother down the hall and rolled her eyes.
Leanna went back downstairs with Tyler    .
“What time do you have to get up in the morning?” she asked him.
“Four forty-five.  I’ll be gone before you get up so I will say good-bye tonight,” Tyler placed a kiss on the top of Leanna’s head.
“No, I’ll get up. I’m going to make you a good breakfast,” Leanna looked up at Tyler.
“I can’t ask you to do that.  Not after all you’ve done today,” Tyler protested.
“You’re not asking me.  I’m telling you what I’m going to do.”
“And I’m going to tell you what you’re not going to do.  And that is get up so early in the morning,” Tyler said.
“I can go back to bed after you leave.  Please Tyler, let me do this for you?”  Leanna tried a pleading look.  Tyler leaned his head back against the wall a moment.
“If you don’t wake me up in the morning, I’ll beat you up!” Leanna tried a violent approach.  And that seemed to work or at least Tyler gave in.

Early the next morning Tyler snuck up the stairs and into the room where Leanna and Hope slept with his mother.  He took Leanna’s hand and gently shook her by the shoulder.  Leanna immediately opened her eyes.
“I’ll be right down,” she whispered.  Tyler left.
He was sitting in the dinning room when she came down.
“You’re spoiling me,” he said as she took out some breakfast stuff.
“No, I’m just taking care of you.”
“Showing me how lucky I am in getting you for a wife?” Tyler laughed softly and Leanna smiled at him.
When they had eaten their breakfast, Tyler said,
“I’m never going to survive until October now.  I know, let’s run down to the courthouse right now while they are all sleeping.  Then you can simple tell them you’re married so you’re staying here.”
“Very funny.  Unlike Lilly, I want to have a big wedding,” Leanna said.  Tyler laughed.
“Yes, you do.  And I love you for all you have done and will be doing.  You are truly an amazing women.”
“You’re an amazing man,” Leanna returned the compliment.
“Don’t work too hard.  And keep yourself in good health until I can take care of you for good.”  Leanna said as they stood by Tyler’s truck a bit later.
“Don’t worry about me.  And call me when you get home,” Tyler gave Leanna a big hug and a kiss before getting into his truck.
Leanna waved him out of sight then went back in to take a nap on the sofa till the others got up.

How did you like it?  I would love

Happy New Year!!!

Well 2014 is here!  This year instead of a party we watched movies to see in the new year.  The younger ones watched Thomas The Train and Curious George.  Mom and we big girls watched THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL!!!!!  Both the 1934 and the 1982.  The later was the better by far but they were both good.  Now I am walking around saying "Sink me" in this affected tone.  Before to long I will be driving everyone nuts probably.

As for new years resolutions.......I don't really have any except to do more posts here.  I plan to keep a list of all the books, movies and projects I make, read and watch this year.  And possible make Pinterest boards for the books I read, the movies I watch and the projects I make.

And this is my new favorite song.  If you can't tell I am "in love" (you might say) with the Scarlet Pimpernel. =)  Baroness Orczy really did a great job with The Scarlet Pimpernel books!
